Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed Mason Greenwood’s ‘excellent’ performance against West Ham and believes the young attacker is ‘maturing all the time’.

Greenwood has only scored once in 23 Premier League appearances this season but Solskjaer is not concerned by the striker’s poor form in front of goal.

He forced an excellent save from West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and hit the post but the 19-year-old will no doubt be disappointed not to have found the back of the net.

It took a Craig Dawson own goal to break the deadlock for United in a 1-0 win, however, Greenwood’s manager is focusing on the positives and believes it was another impressive display from the frontman.

And Solskjaer says he is ‘very pleased’ with the form the England international has shown in recent weeks.

‘He deserved a goal he was excellent tonight,’ Solskjaer told the BBC. ‘He’s getting there. He’s growing and maturing all the time.

He added in his post-match press conference: ‘His performance was really good. He deserved a goal.

‘I have to say he’s played really well lately. He linked the play well, he held it up for us, kept switching it.

‘He had our two best chances. Of course, great save by Fabianski down to his right. Unfortunately hit the post on the second one.

‘He kept creating chances for others as well so very pleased with Mason at the moment.’
