Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fires warning to Bruno Fernandes after Arsenal draw

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned Bruno Fernandes he cannot afford to let his temper get the better of him after he was fortunate to escape punishment during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

The Portugal international has had a transformative effect on his Manchester United side since his arrival last January, but he was unable to celebrate his first anniversary with the club with a much-needed victory.

An under-strength Arsenal team, who were without the likes of Kieran Tierney, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka, were well worth a point and came closest to securing all three points when Alexandre Lacazette’s second-half free-kick crashed against the crossbar.

Fernandes, meanwhile, was unable to help break the deadlock and was, perhaps, fortunate to still be on the pitch after he was caught raking his studs down the back of Granit Xhaka’s Achilles’.

The former Sporting Lisbon captain had, moments earlier, been riled by a challenge from Cedric Soares that caught him in the face, but Solskjaer conceded that his playmaker’s reaction could have had serious repercussions.

‘He’s a winner of course just got to watch it so it doesn’t boil over little bit of a stamp on Xhaka,’ Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference.

‘But that’s Bruno, he wants to win, he wants to tackle.

‘He’s a clean player, he wants to win and he almost won it with a shot over the bar when he nipped inside David Luiz, so unlucky.

‘I’m very pleased to have him, he’s been here a year now and long may that continue and hopefully he’ll have a super successful time.’
