Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer laughed off suggestions he could be sacked after his side’s humiliating defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Red Devils collapsed to a 2-1 defeat to the Turkish minnows in Istanbul and Solskjaer’s side registered just two shots on goal – including their goal from Anthony Martial.

The defeat means United have won just one of their last four matches and they languish in 15th place in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton.

Mauricio Pochettino admitted his determination to return to club management earlier this week and the Argentine was United’s first choice to replace Jose Mourinho in 2018 before Solskjaer impressed during his period in interim charge.

The pressure is now building on the Norwegian again but the former Cardiff boss was unwilling to enter into discussions about his future following the defeat.

‘I decline to comment on such a thing,’ Solskjaer said.

‘Of course, it’s early on and opinions are out there all the time. You’ve got to stay strong. I’m employed by the club to do a job and I do that to the best of my ability with my staff’.

United haven’t beaten Everton at Goodison Park since 2017 and they could be without Victor Lindelof after Solskjaer confirmed the Swede had a bad back for the trip to Istanbul.

Axel Tuanzebe started in place for the former Benfica man but he was taken off at half-time after a wretched first half.
