His mum Jade, who works as a nurse in Bury St Edmunds said parents need to look out for other symptoms aside from the three main Covid signs.

The 34-year-old said that Covid didn’t even enter her mind when the rash first came up and said even her GP thought it looked like an allergic reaction.

Jade said that Bertie had first developed a runny nose before the rash started.

She said the rash spread to his cheeks, ears, knees and stomach.

The NHS states that a new persistent cough, a high temperature and a loss of taste and smell (anosmia) are the three key signs of Covid-19.

If you have any of these symptoms then you should get a test and isolate.

Experts behind the ZOE Symptom Tracker app have previously stated however, that children can experience different symptoms to adults.

Data from the app shows that most children testing positive for Covid had symptoms such as fatigue, headache, fever, sore throat and a loss of appetite.

The researchers also stated that 15 per cent of kids who test positive also present with an unusual skin rash.

After taking Bertie to her GP, Jade wasn’t convinced that the rash was allergies and decided to take him for a drive-through test.

Bertie had a positive test result and Jade said the rash had first presented like hives and had been “tender to touch”.

While a rash isn’t a key symptom, previous studies found that rashes were a common symptom in patients presenting in Spanish hospitals.

Jade shared the photos of Bertie to Facebook in order to raise awareness of the symptom.

She said other parents have also contacted her and told her their children have had the same issues.

Rashes are a well known side effect of viral infections and Dr Michael Head at the University of Southampton previously highlighted that it’s not known why inflammation occurs in some Covid patients but not in others.

In a statement a Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “An expert and independent scientific group keeps the list of symptoms of Covid-19 under constant review as our understanding of the virus continues to evolve.”

Everyone with Covid could be paid £500 under radical plan to encourage more tests and curb virus spread
