No wonder Corbyn’s running scared! Boris and Farage could crush Labour in election – poll

[ad_1]

Up to 39,872 Express.co.uk readers voted in a poll that ran on Tuesday amid the Prime Minister’s attempt to stave of a rebellion MPs that ultimately led to the Commons voting to block a no deal Brexit and in favour of delaying Britain’s departure until January. Yesterday, Mr Johnson offered Mr Corbyn the chance to finally have a general election after the veteran left-winger has spent the past two years demanding one. However, in a moment described as cowardice, the Labour Party refused to vote for the fresh vote.

Mr Corbyn claimed he would only support an election once he had seen off a no deal Brexit.

Responding to Labour’s refusal to back an election, Mr Johnson said on Thursday: “People can choose Jeremy Corbyn to be Prime Minister, go to Brussels on October 17 to delay Brexit again and do what Brussels wants.

“Or people can choose me to go to Brussels on October 17, try to negotiate a new deal, I’m confident that I can, but to leave on October 31 in all circumstances so the country can move on.

“Last night Jeremy Corbyn voted to stop you, the public, deciding this.

“He has now voted to destroy the negotiations, to delay again for no reason and to stop you deciding whether we delay or not.”

However, Express.co.uk’s poll on readers voting intentions would appear Mr Corbyn had good reason to be reluctant to go to the ballot box.

A total of 51 percent of those who voted said they would vote for the Conservative Party (20,361 votes).

Currently the second largest party in the House of Commons, Labour was even beaten to the runner up spot in the Express.co.uk poll on voting intentions.

The Brexit Party secured the support of 34 percent of readers, the equivalent of 13,592 votes.

The Labour Party received support from just 2,166 votes meaning just five percent of readers would vote for Mr Corbyn in a general election.

The Lib Dems received six percent of the votes, amounting to 2,536 votes.

All other parties all received less than one percent support.

The votes tallied were 249 for the SNP, 89 for Change UK, 253 for the Green Party, 169 for Ukip and 357 for the ‘other’ option.

However, readers warned Mr Johnson and Mr Faage should form an electoral pact in order to ensure the ‘Leave’ vote did not split and accidentally pave way for Labour to seize victory.

One commenter said: “Boris and Farage MUST have an agreement else the two of them could lose any chance of Brexit if they split the leave vote.

“Boris has to deliver for the 17.4 million who voted leave.”

Another said: “If Boris tells us ‘We leave with no deal’ perhaps I’d back him. If not it’s the Brexit party. Vote Boris = Get rubbish withdrawal agreement.”

A third commenter said: “It is blindingly obvious that Boris and Nigel need to come to an agreement to avoid the Leave vote being split.”

A fourth added: “Tricky one. If I was sure the tories would deliver I would vote tory, but if I wasn’t sure (which I’m still not) it would be The Brexit Party.

“Best case scenario in my view to ensure Brexit and see off the loony Remainers is for the Brexit Party and Tories to form a pact of non aggression – an alliance if you like.”

A fifth read: “Tricky question as if Boris is going down the no deal road then it would be the Conservatives BUT if it looks like he is going down any other road it would be The Brexit Party. You can trust Nigel but can you trust Boris?”

Mr Johnson will make a second attempt for a general election on Monday.
