BioWare and EA have plenty in store for Dragon Age fans this Dragon Age Day, but it doesn’t include any updates on the new game.

During last year’s Dragon Age Day – a community-led celebration of the series on December 4 – BioWare and EA contributed with some official short stories and a promise that the next Dragon Age 4 reveal would be shown at The Game Awards.

If you’ve been hoping that the same thing would happen this year, you’re going to be disappointed. Official information on the next Dragon Age has been lacking for a long time and it sounds like there now won’t be any meaningful updates until 2022.

‘We want to let you all know that we’re still hard at work on building the next single-player focused experience for Dragon Age,’ reads a message from the development team. ‘We’re excited for next year when we can talk more about what we’re working on.’

At the very least, this officially confirms that Dragon Age 4 (or whatever it’s actually called) will be a single-player game, just as the Bloomberg report from February said.

Apparently, EA intended for it to be a multiplayer live service game, but the failure and cancellation of Anthem, plus the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, prompted a change in direction.

The team has written two more short stories to satiate fans’ appetites in the meantime, alongside a whole day full of events to get involved with. This includes writing and art prompts and a 24+ hours long Twitch livestream.

Those with money burning a hole in their pocket can spend it on new Dragon Age merchandise and the series is even having a small crossover with Apex Legends. As such, EA Play members can claim a Dragon Age themed Highland Ravager Weapon Charm until January 4, 2022,

Dragon Age Day is also raising money for AbleGamers, a charity which uses video games to aid those with disabilities and aims to make the gaming industry more accessible.
