Nigerian slain, P13.6 million shabu seized in drug sting

MANILA, Philippines — A Nigerian citizen was killed and two kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P13.6 million were seized in a sting in Concepcion, Tarlac yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Gabriel Onyechefula, reportedly a member of the West African drug ring.

Drug Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee said a shootout occurred in the parking lot of a videoke bar in Barangay Jefmin at around 10 a.m.

Police said Onyechefula was about to be arrested after accepting  P16,000 in marked money from an undercover agent in exchange for a pack of shabu when he drew his gun.

The suspect died at the scene.

Authorities said a 9mm handgun was recovered from the fatality.

Initial investigation showed that Onyechefula had lured several Filipinos to become drug mules.
