Neville and Carragher pick Liverpool and Man Utd combined XIs if all stars fit

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher disagreed on two positions as they named their combined Liverpool and Manchester United XIs.

Unsurprisingly, United legend Neville handed the two contentious spots to Red Devils players, while Liverpool hero Carragher gave them to two of Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Assuming all players are available, the pair of pundits began in goal and agreed Liverpool No.1 Alisson takes the gloves ahead of opposite number David de Gea.

Neville and Carragher also agreed the full-back spots should go to two more Reds stars, with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right and Andy Robertson the left.

But they clashed on who should partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

Carragher opted for Van Dijk’s regular partner Joe Gomez, but Neville insisted United captain Harry Maguire should get the nod.

The dispute carried over into midfield, where Neville picked Paul Pogba and Carragher named Thiago Alcantara for the same spot in the trio.

But the duo agreed the other two positions in the centre of the park should be occupied by one player from United and one from Liverpool in the form of Bruno Fernandes and Fabinho respectively.

There was similar consensus regarding the attacking trident, with both pundits selecting Liverpool superstars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to flank Red Devils sensation Marcus Rashford.

Salah is the Reds’ top scorer this season with 17 goals in all competitions, while Mane has netted nine times.

Rashford has also enjoyed a prolific first half of the campaign with 14 goals and six assists.

Gary Neville (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Maguire, Robertson; Fernandes, Fabinho, Pogba; Salah, Rashford, Mane.

Jamie Carragher (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; Fernandes, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Rashford, Mane.
