NETFLIX horror Black Summer has been renewed for a second series with Jaime King leading the charge against blood-thirsty zombies.
The series – an unofficial Z Nation prequel – first aired on the streaming service in April this year.
But it’s taken until now for Netflix to confirm a second season will be made, and will consist of eight episodes.
Jaime, 40, plays lead character Rose, a mother who is separated from her days during a deadly zombie apocalypse.
It is produced by the same production company as Syfy series Z Nation, but Jaime – who also serves as an Executive Producer – doesn’t see it as a prequel.
She previously said: “I had never actually seen Z Nation or heard about Z Nation, but I have friends who absolutely love that show, and then people started putting it out there that it was like a prequel of Z-Nation, which it’s not.
“And really there is no relationship, but the relationship is it came from the people that were involved with Z Nation.”
Indeed, Black Summer co-creator and Z Nation writer/director John Hyams is returning as show runner for season two.
Meanwhile, Justin Chu Cary will return as Spears, while Christine Lee will be back as Kyungsun.
Production begins on the second season at some point next year in Alberta, Canada.
Fans were delighted by the news, with one writing on Twitter: “I’m so excited I can’t wait.”
Another added: “this is great news, we really enjoyed watching season 1. black summer has such a fresh take and approach to the zombie genre.”
A third agreed, writing: “I am so glad! What a fun and crazy ride the first season was!”
