Nathan Evans on working with Ed Sheeran as stars grace Pride of Scotland awards

Nathan Evans talked about collaborating with Ed Sheeran as Arlene Phillips, Still Game and Love Island stars graced the red carpet at the Daily Record Pride of Scotland awards.

Wellerman hitmaker Nathan, who arrived with his wife Holly, said it was an absolute privilege to be at the bash.

Nathan also revealed that now he’s in his new dream house he’d like to enter a savings phase of his life and carry on working.

And while talking of his future plans, the songwriter admitted he’d love to work with global superstar Ed Sheeran at some point.

The Sea Shanty singer, who has just released a new song Told You So, said: “You’ve got all these people here and I’ve done a lot in the last year, but these people here have done even more.”

Arlene Phillips and award winner Lily Douglas

“If Ed Sheeran is watching I’m here. It’s down to Ed. He’s definitely bigger than me. It’s his decision I guess.”

Former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, 78, arrived on the red carpet with her daughter Abi, 30, and immediately surprised Lily Douglas, who won the Teenager of Courage award.

Lily was speechless as Arlene walked up behind the young dancer from Perth and admitted she wanted to give her a big hug.

As the two friends were reunited Arlene explained: “We have known one another for a long time but Lily didn’t expect me to be here tonight

“We first met just after Lily was diagnosed and we stayed pretty close.

“It’s very emotional. I’m going to be getting as close as I can over dinner if I have my way.”

Lily said: “Oh my god, I cant believe it. I’m so happy. We might even do some dancing tonight.”

Arlene said: “I was a hundred per cent going to be here.

“Nothing can stop me. I’ve been rehearsing for Grease so it’s been from early until late. I have been choreographing the show.

Everything I do is a new adventure and everything I do I have to be safe and ultra careful because of my age.”

Gavin Mitchell strikes a pose

Still Game’s Boaby the Barman aka Gavin Mitchell and Sanjeev Kohli who played Navid were also reunited at the bash.

Admitting it was a shock to the system, Gavin said: “I’ve been in for months. I don’t know if I’ll end up in the car gong straight back.

Gavin, who is currently working with Irvine Welsh on a new project, says he’s been painting during lockdown and admitted: “That was my first love. It’s quite figurative.”

His other passion has been looking after his new Spanish rescue dog, which was called Boaby when he got it.

He laughed: “Imagine that. If you do find my boaby, will you give him a clap.

I adopted this new dog and the woman said, ‘can I tell you something funny?’ I had four and they were called Jack, Victor and Isa and Boaby chose you.”

Sanjeev, who was also chuffed to be out after lockdown, admitted he’d been eating over the last year and a half.

He said: “I’ve been a yo yo dieter in lockdown, like my German hip hop name , like we’ve all been.

“In fact my new TK Maxx suit lost a button in the car on the way here tonight.”

Janey Godley also came prepared for the night with her trainers and shades on.

She joked: ‘I was waiting in the car that long, twenty minutes. I could have had a wee Matt Hancock affair it took that long, I could have done a bit of parkour.”

Janey’s daughter Ashley Storrie is currently filming in Cambridge and Janey was missing her.

She paid tribute to the award winners and said: “It’s beautiful grounds here. I’ve put on a pair of shoes and a good bra but folk here have done so much more.”

Janey also revealed she’d love Dawn French to do her voiceovers and that she has stalked Harrison Ford on the set of the new Indiana Jones movie ‘but apparently they don’t want a woman that looks like a manatee.”

Paige Turley and Finn Tapp

Love Island’s Paige Turley and Finley Tapp were also love’s young dream as they walked down the red carpet at the event hosted by Nicky Campbell and Kirsty Gallagher, who admitted they’d not worked together before.

Paige was delighted to be back on her home turf and Finley was enjoying seeing her dressed up.

He said he’d be sneaking off to the bathroom for forty five minutes to watch the England game.

Paige also revealed she’s working on some new music and would even consider going back to reality shows and doing The Masked Singer.
