White clothes are tricky to keep in good nick.

Put them in the wash with a rogue sock and they start to go dingy and grey, or sweat too much and they start to stain yellow. Not ideal.

Thankfully, a mum-of-two has shared her simple six-step laundry hack to help keep your your white clothes white, and even make them whiter – and you only need a few household staples.

Carolina McCauley, from Perth, Australia, uses a mixture of baking soda, high quality laundry detergent, white vinegar and sunshine to ensure her family’s white garments keep their brightness.

She said the trick works with clothes, sports clothes and even towels and white linen.

But before you even think about your clothes, you have to make sure your washing machine is in good shape.

‘Firstly, make sure your machine is spotless,’ Carolina comments on the video she shared. ‘Then, add half a cup of baking soda to the machine.’

Carolina cleans her machine using a dry dish cloth run along the insides of the drum.

When that’s all done, and the baking soda is in, Carolina says you should add your clothes, good quality detergent, and a bit of white vinegar ‘inside your rinse cycle section’.

‘Wash the clothes at the hottest temperature,’ she adds.

‘Then, dry your clothes in the sun.’ Now, this is where living in Australia comes in handy. We might have to wait until warmer months before we can properly complete this step.

But, if you do follow the steps – this hack could transform your white washes. At least according to some of the thousands of people who watched Carolina’s video.

‘This works like a gem,’ one woman commented on the video.

‘I’m going to save this video for my husband’s shirts,’ posted another.

So, if your sick of dingy and yellowing clothes and you want to rescue your whites – follow these steps and see the difference for yourself.
