Multiple PS4 models being discontinued according to Japanese retailer

A Japanese retailer has warned customers that Sony is no longer manufacturing certain PS4 models, but Sony itself hasn’t commented.

It’s no secret that Sony has shifted its priorities to focus heavily on the newly released PlayStation 5.

However, it’s believed that the company has already begun to cease production of the PlayStation 4.

According to a tweet translated by Twitter user Cheesemeister, one retailer in Japan has informed customers that it will no longer be stocking certain PS4 models, as Sony has stopped manufacturing them.

At the time of writing, Sony hasn’t commented nor has there been any confirmation that the same applies to overseas retailers.

While it makes some sense for Sony to ease off manufacturing PS4 consoles, especially with the PS5 being out of stock and the far more popular choice at the moment, it arguably feels too early for this to be happening.

Sony itself previously stated that it intends to keep supporting the PS4 with new games for the next three years.

Also, with many unable to get their hands on a PS5, those people have had to fall back on their PS4, which has already received cross-gen games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

That said, there have been recent reports that a huge shipment of PS5 consoles will arrive in the UK this month, which should make the console more readily available.
