M&S is hiring for 12,000 job ahead of Christmas

MARKS and Spencer is hiring for thousands of new positions ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season.

The jobs up for grabs are customer service assistant roles in stores across the country, including food as well as home and clothing.

M&S is looking to fill 12,000 roles in total in shops, and another 750 seasonal and permanent positions at its distribution centres.

The warehouses are in Milton Keynes and Bradford and fulfil online orders for shoppers.

Helen Milford, stores director at M&S said the extra staff will help “deliver the famous M&S magic and sparkle our customers know us for”.

Jobs available in store are advertised online at jobs.marksandspencer.com.

Customer assistant salaries start at £9.20 per hour and £10.25 in London and M&S staff also get 20% discount in store and online at the shop.

Christmas positions start in early December and there are a range of contract lengths available.

The retailer said there may also be opportunities for permanent positions after Christmas, but this will depend on the store.

M&S is just one of several shops going on a seasonal hiring spree.

Sainsbury’s is creating 22,000 new jobs, including Argos which is owned by the same company.
