Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has played down talk that the club could sign former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Dane joined Inter Milan from Spurs in January for a fee of around £17.5million but he’s not part of Antonio Conte’s long-term plans and he’s been offered to a host of clubs, including Arsenal.

The Gunners have suffered from a chronic lack of creativity so far this season and they’re without a goal in open play in their last four Premier League outings.

Despite his ties with rivals Spurs, Eriksen is believed to be open to returning to the red half of north London.

However, while Arteta didn’t rule out a move for the Denmark international today, the Spaniard did his best to quash talk of a move for the former Ajax ace.

‘There are a lot of players that can improve any team but obviously we’re not going to discuss any individuals,’ said Arteta, when asked about Eriksen.

Arsenal were keen on Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar in the summer but the Gunners decided to prioritise a move for Thomas Partey instead.

The club are hopeful of reigniting a move for the Frenchman in January but Eriksen would represent a cheaper alternative.

Inter are believed to value the Dane at around £12.5m and at 28 he is arguably in the peak of his career.

Eriksen played 305 times for rivals Spurs, scoring 69 goals.
