Michael Owen has cast his eye over the upcoming action in the Carabao Cup Round of 16, with plenty of Premier League sides still in the competition.

Arsenal welcome Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds to the Emirates on Tuesday, just days after their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

After an abysmal start to the season, losing to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, the north Londoners have begun to turn their season around with four wins from their last six league games.

Mikel Arteta’s side have beaten West Brom and AFC Wimbledon to get to the last 16 in the Carabao Cup, and Owen thinks the Gunners will progress even further with a 2-1 win over Leeds.

Arsenal looked in very good form in Friday’s win over Villa,’ Owen told BetVictor. I thought they played with great energy, led by Emile Smith Rowe.

‘Arsenal have won the FA Cup under Arteta, and he’ll fancy another Cup run here.  I’m going 2-1 Arsenal.’

Chelsea will be in good spirits following their 7-0 thrashing over Norwich on Saturday, which has kept them at the top of the Premier League table after nine games.

The Blues face Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, which Owen believes will end in a 2-0 victory for the home side.

‘That was an outstanding performance by Chelsea on Saturday,’ he added. ‘They’ll make a few changes here, but they have such a big squad that I can’t see it being an issue.

‘Southampton have bigger issues to worry about in the league, so I’m predicting a 2-0 win.’

Liverpool, meanwhile, go away to Championship side Preston after beating their bitter rivals Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Former Reds striker Owen can’t see past a win for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Wednesday given the confidence that must be flowing through the team at present.

‘After Sunday’s masterclass at Old Trafford, the squad must be full of confidence’ Owen continued.

‘I don’t expect we’ll see the same team here, but Liverpool will have too much for a Preston side who are struggling in the Championship.

‘2-0 Liverpool is my prediction.’

Elsewhere, Owen expects Premier League sides Leicester and Brentford to progress against Brighton and Stoke respectively, but he can’t call a winner between West Ham and Man City.

The ex-England forward is also backing Burnley to pull off a surprise win against Tottenham, and QPR to get the better of Sunderland.
