Mesut Ozil praised his Arsenal team-mates in the aftermath of their 4-2 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby.

The German midfielder missed the match with a back spasm but Unai Emery’s men put in a stunning performance without him, managing to complete a second-half comeback to see off their bitter rivals at the Emirates.

Eric Dier and Harry Kane put Spurs in front after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s opener before the Gabonese striker found an equaliser in the 56th minute.

Second-half substitute Alexandre Lacazette put the Gunners back in front in the 74th minute and Lucas Torreira put the icing on the cake for Arsenal with a well-taken strike just three minutes later.

After the win, Ozil tweeted: ‘When Sead Kolasinac pulls out the Emirates corner flag then you know something big has happened.

‘Proud of the whole team. North London is red!’

Emery refused to dwell on Ozil’s absence shortly after Arsenal’s victory.

Asked if he could have played, Emery replied: ‘He has back ache.

‘This is a good day to speak about players who played,’ responded when asked if he told Ozil he wasn’t going to feature at the Emirates.

Aubameyang insisted Arsenal were still confident of a result despite behind behind at the break.

‘After the first goal we conceded, we had a moment when we were down, but at half-time we were still confident. We knew we could still do it,’ he said.

‘In the second half we always play very well. We don’t give up – that’s the mentality.’
