Men are sharing the ‘glow-downs’ they’ve had in lockdown and it’s very relatable

With most of us taking a dent in our exercise regimes and trips to the salon – not to mention the fact that we’ve been living in our leisurewear for what seems like forever – it’s fair to say it’s had an impact on our appearances.

However, this isn’t stopping the men of TikTok from showing off their lockdown inspired looks.

Called ‘glow-down’ videos, guys have been posting pics of what they looked like a year ago and popping up in front of them to compare their appearance now – and the results are reassuringly brilliant.

TikTok user @rickykv began the challenge after he shared his tongue-in-cheek transformation, inspiring others to do the same.

He said: ‘OK, so everybody on TikTok loves to talk about “glow-ups.” Let’s talk about my glow-down.

‘So, this was a year ago, looking f**king delicious, looking like a little snack, and this is what I look like now’.

Since he posted his video, Ricky, 20, has received more than 700,000 views with others dueting him and using his sound to show their own images.

And while to many of us Ricky may look pretty samey, some of the other men taking part certainly look different from how they did 12 months ago.

From longer hair and bushy beards, some even admitted to putting on a few pounds.

Others who took part in the trend just looked more tired than in previous years (a pandemic will do that to you).

One of the guys commented: ‘I was a stud too then I gained like 30lbs since March. It’s been rough. STILL GOT THE FACE DOE.’

Another joined in, posting his own video with the caption: ’15lbs heavier, broken out, and need a barber badly ‘.

Then there’s the man who took part, showing how he grew a whole mane in the past 12 months.

Some women have contributed to the challenge too, though the trend was dominated by male TikTokkers.

And it was reassuring to see that most of the users comforted one another rather than throw shade, saying it was to be expected and that no one looks worse, just that they’re different because they’ve adapted to the stresses of the pandemic.

‘It’s ok man. We all had too many quarantine snacks,’ one said, while another wrote: ‘One this pandemic passes we’ll all be alright.’

Though Ricky started the trend of pandemic glow-downs, it was Gabrielle McDonald who kicked off the challenge of sharing how people had passed their peak, in terms of attractiveness.

Relatable.
