Meghan McCain voiced her concern for Britney Spears, after her bombshell conservatorship hearing.

The Toxic singer, 39, broke her silence on the court order, describing it as ‘abusive’ and pleading with the judge to put an end to her ordeal.

She later shared a heartfelt Instagram post in which she apologised to fans for pretending that she has ‘been okay the past two years’.

Speaking of the case, The View host shared her worries for what this honesty could now mean for the mum-of-two.

Taking to Twitter, Meghan wrote: ‘I mean this with absolute sincerity and not hyperbole – is Britney Spears safe right now? This very second.

‘The people who did this to her are psychopaths and could very well retaliate against her for speaking out.

‘This is a real time crisis that can’t wait for another court date.’

Britney was placed under the court order in 2008, at the height of her mental health struggles – with dad Jamie put in control of her personal affairs and finances.

She was finally able to speak honestly at a hearing on Wednesday and called for the conservatorship to end after 13 years of following strict rules.

During her testimony, the Baby One More Time star detailed her desperate situation, stating: ‘After I’ve told the whole world I’m okay, it’s a lie. I’m not happy and I can’t sleep. I’m depressed. I cry everyday … It’s my wish and dream for all of this to end. I want my life back.

‘I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. I want to end the conservatorship without having to be evaluated. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive.’

Taking to Instagram after the hearing, Britney shared an inspirational quote, adding: ‘I just want to tell you guys a little secret … I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing … I think that’s what we all strive for!!!!

‘That was one of my mother’s best traits … no matter how s****y a day was when I was younger … for the sake of me and my siblings she always pretended like everything was ok.

‘I’m bringing this to peoples attention because I don’t want people to think my life is perfect because IT’S DEFINITELY NOT AT ALL … and if you have read anything about me in the news this week … you obviously really know now it’s not!!!!

‘I apologise for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years … I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me … but honestly who doesn’t want to capture their Instagram in a fun light!!!!’

Britney concluded: ‘Believe it or not pretending that I’m ok has actually helped … so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell … I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked … so I’ve decided to start reading more fairy tales!!!!! [sic].’
