Meet Trevor, the tough turkey who won’t be anybody’s dinner this year

Trevor the turkey is one tough bird who was never destined for the dinner table this Christmas.

This turkey has survived two fox attacks, dog brawls and has a passion for picking fights with postal workers.

Trevor was introduced to his human family five years ago when ‘turkey mum’ Lilly, then 16, eggs in her bedroom, telling her parents, Darren, 43, and Nadine, 42t, they were ‘just chickens’ because she wasn’t allowed the much larger birds.

‘We already had chickens, ducks and other animals, so I just incubated the turkey eggs in my room,’ Lilly said.

‘When they hatched, my mum rang me and said “Lilly, these aren’t chickens!”‘

Sadly, Trevor became the only surviving member of his sibling group when, three years later, a hungry fox attacked.

Lilly said: ‘Only Trevor survived as he was the only one who put himself to bed in the house, and he’s always been quite proud of himself for that!

‘He also now has the whole turkey house to himself!

‘When he was a baby, from the moment he hatched, he was always more friendly and outgoing than his siblings.

‘After that he survived another fox attack in 2019 and we lost him for two days!

‘But then I came home one day and he was sat on one of the walls at the bottom of the garden- he’s such a hero!

‘He had quite a bad cut on his back but we didn’t know if the vet would see a turkey so managed to clean and treat it ourselves, but he stuck through and is as tough as anything!’

These days, Trevor is a territorial bird who enjoys chasing his family, dogs or anything that threatens his homestead, like cars.

Even though he’s definitely a fighter, Trevor the turkey has never hurt any of the Pinchin family in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.

He eats the food waste from the kitchen for breakfast and gets thrown bread out the window.

He lives in his own special turkey house next to the chicken coop and needs to be taken to bed each night as he likes to spend the day surveying the land on top of the family’s tractor.

Proud Lilly said: ‘He’s so funny; if you say good morning to him then he will gobble back!

‘He loves sparkly trainers so if you have some on that’s a real catch for him.

‘I bought a nice pair of Gucci shoes with golden bumblebees and he LOVES them, he will just stand there and look or dance around them!

‘He also likes to peck at teddy bears- he’s got a right personality!’

One day when the roads were quiet during the first lockdown, Lilly and her family went out for a dog walk, and instead of having Trevor just see them off at the end of the driveway, they let him join for the walk.

Lilly said: ‘He didn’t need a lead and just followed the dogs, for about two miles as well- I can’t imagine what the neighbours thought!’

Trevor even found fame back in June when CCTV footage of the two stone bird chasing a DPD driver trying delivering a package back into their van went viral.

The poor driver was flapped at and chased roundthe van until she eventually had to leave a note for the family telling them she’d left their post in the driveway because the ‘turkey wouldn’t leave me alone’.

‘The dogs barked so Trevor wondered what was going on and started to chase her round a van quite a bit.’ she said.

‘She threw the post all over the driveway and drove off, he was being really naughty!

‘She obviously wasn’t best pleased, and since then when we’re not home he’s had to stay locked in the yard!’

Even though he can evidently fend for himself in a fight, Trevor has never hurt anyone.

He loves to have a good run around so his family give him free range of their house and yard.

Lilly said: ‘He will jump and fly wherever he wants to go, and if the house is open he will make himself comfy in the dog bed!

‘We’ve even found him chilling in the washing machine.’

After the CCTV footage of Trevor and the postal worker earned him internet fame, Lilly set up a Facebook page for Trevor called ‘Trev the Turkey’, where he has more than 10,000 fans.
