Fast food tastes great – particularly when it’s free.

Tapping into this universal feeling, McDonald’s has just unveiled a new loyalty scheme – where customers can earn points in exchange for freebies.

So, if you regularly love feasting on nuggets, Big Macs or McFlurries, you can now be rewarded for your food habits.

The scheme, known as MyMcDonald’s Rewards, encourages customers to build up points then cash them in for free food – or a charity donation towards BBC Children in Need.

It’s being rolled out across 10 McDonald’s restaurants in the north of England from today, with plans to expand to another 65 stores later this month.

The ten venues participating in the pilot scheme include St Helens (Church Street), Aintree, Formby, Kirkby (County Road/Hall Lane),Liverpool (Kensington), Liverpool (Switch Island), Runcorn, Skelmersdale,  St Helens (Linkway) and Widnes.

Customers can earn 100 points for every £1 they spend at McDonald’s – so to get 1,500 points, you’ll have to fork out £15 on food.

There are 15 items available for free, once you’ve racked up the corresponding points.

A collection of 1,500 points will get you a portion of small fries, a mini McFlurry, a regular McCafé, a hash brown, a side salad or a £1.50 to donation to charity.

Those with 2,500 points can claim a double cheeseburger, a Veggie Deluxe, a Bacon Mayo Chicken, a Cheesy Bacon Flatbread, medium fries or make a £2.50 donation to charity.

Whereas customers with 4,000 points can get six chicken McNuggets, a Big Mac, a McChicken Sandwich, a double sausage and egg McMuffin, a premium salad or a £4.00 donation.

To sign up to the loyalty scheme, you’ll need to download the MyMcDonald’s app.

If you order and pay through the MyMcDonald’s app, your points will automatically be banked.

Alternatively, you can get a one-time code – available in the ‘code’ section of the app.
