Matt Hancock bragged about working with 'brilliant women' before affair claims

Heath Secretary Matt Hancock bragged about working with “brilliant women” and urged others to get involved in politics – just hours before his alleged affair came to light.

The Tory cabinet member shared a message on his Instagram account urging women to “swipe up” to find out more.

It was posted last night, shortly before pictures emerged showing him kissing one of his closest aides during the Covid pandemic.

His Instagram story said: “I work alongside some brilliant women.

“If you’re a woman who wants to get involved in politics swipe up.”

Females who did swipe up were taken to a page on the Conservative website titled ‘Calling all Conservative women’.

It says: “There is no better time to get started than now.”

The Health Secretary is facing questions this morning after being spotted snogging Gina Coladangelo, 43, at the Department of Health’s London HQ.

Mr Hancock, 42, only hired Ms Coladangelo – who he first met at Oxford University in the early 2000s – last year.

Whistleblowers claim the Health Secretary has been cheating on his wife of 15 years, Martha Hoyer Millar, as the UK continues to fight the Covid pandemic.

Matt Hancock is yet to comment on the claims.

A friend of the Health Secretary told The Mirror: “He has no comment on personal matters. No rules have been broken.”

A Whitehall source told The Sun Hancock’s behaviour “in the middle of a pandemic with an adviser and friend he used public money to hire” is shocking.

The Mirror has also contacted the Department of Health and Social Care for comment on the explosive allegations.

The embattled Health Secretary was already under severe pressure after damning evidence from former Number 10 spin doctor Dominic Cummings revealed that Boris Johnson branded Mr Hancock “totally f***ing useless” during the early stages of Covid last year.

The Health Secretary was also accused of lying about PPE provisions, failing care homes and overseeing the extraordinarily costly and failing Test and Trace system.

Only this week, the Queen referred to him as “poor man” in a clip released from her first in-person audience with Mr Johnson in 15 months.

The Sun has shared images of Mr Hancock and his aide appearing to passionately kiss, which were said to have been taken just after 3pm on May 6.

A whistleblower told the newspaper the pair have ‘regularly’ been caught in clinches together.

The source was reported to have said: “They have tried to keep it a secret but everyone knows what goes on inside a building like that.

“I’m just amazed he was so brazen about it as he was the Secretary of State.

“It has also shocked people because he put her in such an important, publicly-funded role and this is what they get up to.”

Rumours are said to have been circulating within the department – with colleagues openly discussing it via WhatsApp.

The explosive claims come just days after it emerged that Mr Johnson branded Mr Hancock “totally f***ing useless” during the early stages of the pandemic last year.

The PM’s ex-aide Mr Cummings said the Health Secretary should have been sacked for lies and fatal failings over PPE, testing and care homes.

He also released text exchanges with the Prime Minister, in which he described Mr Hancock as “totally f***g useless”, and mulled over replacing him with Michael Gove.

Mr Hancock was also accused of insulting bereaved families as he insisted there was never a national shortage of PPE and tried to shift the blame for the crisis onto others.
