Former Football League footballer Marvin Morgan has shockingly passed away at the age of 38. Morgan became a fashion designer and respected campaigner in the twilight of and after his playing career, and numerous clubs and players have paid tribute after the sad news.
Morgan’s former club, Hendon, confirmed he had died on Monday before deleting their tweet ahead of an official statement.
It read: “We are shocked to have learned this morning of the passing of Marvin Morgan at the age of just 38 years old.
“Marvin joined us at the start of the 2018/19 season and had a big influence in his 7 appearances. Our thoughts are with his friends, family and loved ones today.”
Several of Morgan’s previous clubs, including Shrewsbury Town and Plymouth Argyle, have since reacted to the news.
After his playing days, Morgan became a campaigner, focusing on anti-racism and anti-discrimination.
He set up his own football team, Fresh Ego FC, to raise awareness of racism issues that are still in football, with Emile Smith Rowe and Michail Antonio two of many professionals to represent them.
Morgan’s work as an entrepreneur and campaigner has made him so widely loved throughout the football community.
Aston Villa winger Ashley Young’s touching message on social media read: “Sorry to hear the sad sad news this morning about Marv. I’m lost for words, to think we was just joking the other week. RIP BRO.”
