Mariah Carey and Jay Z have parted professional ways following an alleged argument over her career.
Apparently the two music icons disagreed during a meeting while discussing future career moves for Mariah – who has been on the music scene since the 1980s and has sold over 200 million records worldwide.
The pair are said to have endured a row which resulted in Mariah walking away from Jay’s Roc Nation company and is now set to sign a new deal with a different manager.
A source told The Sun: “Mariah and Jay had an explosive meeting which did not go well at all. She has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with him and has called it quits with Roc Nation.
“She will formally depart in the next few weeks. It is a shame because they had done some great work in the last few years. But this meeting couldn’t have gone much worse.
“Mariah has been talking to other managers and thinks she has found someone who she feels has full belief in her as she takes her next steps.”
There is some good news among the professional chaos for Mariah’s fans, however – as new music and live performances are on the horizon.
The source claims: “There is a heavily R&B- influenced album being finalised at the moment and she is planning a world tour for next year, so she isn’t letting this stand in her way.”
However, a source close to the pair told the Mirror: “Mariah’s relationship with Roc Nation ended courteously and she & Jay-Z are on great terms. Mariah is currently represented at Range where her former Roc Nation manager is a Managing Partner.”
A new album would be the first from Mariah since her 2018 release, Caution.
It would also make the singer’s sixteenth studio album – with the star having two UK number one and six US number one albums under her belt.
Mariah and Jay Z have collaborated in the past on singles including her 1999 smash Heartbreaker and his 2000 song, Things That U Do.
While Mariah has also ventured out of the music world and into TV and film projects – with varying degrees of success.
She released critical and commercial flop film Glitter in 2000, but went on to win acclaim for her acting in Lee Daniels’ gritty Oscar winning drama, Precious.
While her life story was committed to the page with the release of her autobiography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which topped book charts in the USA.
