Marc Overmars makes feelings on Mesut Ozil clear with controversial eight-word remark

Marc Overmars has made it clear he’s not a huge fan of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, saying: “I think Hakim [Ziyech] is better than him”.

Gunners legend Overmars is the technical director at Ajax and thinks Arsenal should offload the German World Cup winner and sign Ziyech for half the price.

Ziyech, 26, reportedly has a £31.5million buy-out clause in his Ajax contract and would therefore be allowed to leave should a club match this amount.

And Overmars can’t understand why his former club Arsenal aren’t looking to move Ozil on and use the money from the sale to sign the Netherland’s born Morocco international as his replacement.

Speaking to Dutch publication Algemeen Dagblad, Overmars said: “I am a little surprised that things are still so quiet around Hakim.

“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that.

“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him. I think Hakim is better than Mesut Ozil.

“I would say: sell him and you will get Hakim for half but they didn’t listen to me. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.”
