Glasgow Rangers are close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United to take Amad Diallo on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has made just one appearance for the Red Devils so far this season, starting in a 1-1 Champions League draw with Young Boys.

The winger has not even managed to get on the bench on a regular basis, being an unused substitute just once in the Premier League this campaign as United beat Arsenal at the start of December.

Clearly Manchester United feel he will be able to develop quicker elsewhere and, according to Sky Sports a loan move to Rangers is expected to be confirmed by the end of Friday.

It is a straight loan deal with no option or obligation to buy as United still see the teenager as having a bright future at Old Trafford.

The deal to bring Diallo from Atalanta to Manchester United in January 2021 was worth up to around £37.5m, so they have no intention of giving up on that investment just yet.

However, he is in need of first team experience, having made just seven league appearances in his career to date; four with Atalanta and just three with the Red Devils.

Diallo will be joining a battle for the Scottish Premiership title, with Rangers top of the table and four points clear of rivals Celtic.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is enjoying a good start to his spell in charge of the club after replacing Steven Gerrard in November.

Rangers are now unbeaten in 12 games under the Dutchman in all competitions and have a Europa League knockout clash with Borussia Dortmund to look forward to next month.
