Manchester United youngster Ethan Galbraith has been added to the club’s Europa League squad for Thursday’s clash with Real Sociedad.

United have effectively sealed their place in the last 16 of the competition after a comprehensive 4-0 win in last Thursday’s first leg clash.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to rest some of his first-team regulars with a trip to Chelsea on the horizon this weekend.

The United boss is also contending with injuries to the likes of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay who has been struggling with the thigh injury he suffered during the first leg in Turin.

Highly-rated teenage midfielder Galbraith has now been added to the club’s B-list for the competition and can therefore be included in Solskjaer’s matchday squad for Thursday’s second leg at Old Trafford.

Galbraith, 19, is already a full Northern Ireland international and was one of the clutch of youngsters to make his senior debut in a Europa League group tie against Astana in November 2019.

Shola Shoretire, who made his senior debut on Sunday in the closing stages against Newcastle United, also remains on the B-list – although Solskjaer has said the 17-year-old is unlikely to start against Real Sociedad on Thursday.

Amad Diallo made his debut in the first leg last week, but he too is likely to start on the bench.

When asked if Diallo or Shoretire could start this week, Solskjaer said: ‘Probably not, Shola and Amad, no. I’m not sure that would be fair on them, they’ll be in the squad.’

Two goals from Bruno Fernandes and one each from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James saw United cruise to victory over their La Liga opponents last week.
