Manchester United are ready to reward Edinson Cavani with a new contract.
The Uruguayan penned a one-year deal with the Red Devils after joining on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain.
The forward is due to turn 34 in February but United bosses are keen to tie him to Old Trafford to 2022 with a 12-month contract extension to ward off any potential suitors, according to the Daily Star.
Ed Woodward is believed to have spoken to Cavani about extending his stay and both parties are keen to get a deal agreed.
Cavani has repaid the faith of United chiefs who sanctioned a £210,000-a-week deal in the summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the veteran’s impact at the club.
“He is still one of the fittest players we have got,” said the Norwegian.

“We have plenty of starters. More than eleven starters and that is the thing when you are at Manchester United.
“You should believe in yourself and trust in yourself . I trust him. I trust my players.
“We have good competition for places and he will probably start more games than he will not start.
“At the moment it looks like he has a few years left in him. I wouldn’t say anything else.
“He has made a great influence, a great impact when he has come here. Let’s just focus on improving everyone as well – but he has a few years left in him.”
