Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is on Manchester United’s transfer shortlist for the summer window, according to reports.

The Scotland international has been a regular for Villa since joining the Midlands club from Hibernian in 2018.

Midfield is said to be a priority position for the club to look at strengthening in the summer window, and the Telegraph report that McGinn is being considered as an option for United.

The 27-year-old has caught the eye of United technical director Darren Fletcher, while club icon Sir Alex Ferguson is also thought to be a long-term admirer of the player.

McGinn’s contract isn’t due to expire until 2025, but Villa still value the midfielder at around £40million.

In terms of the January transfer window, Anthony Martial is hoping to get a loan move away from Old Trafford this month.

Interim Red Devils boss said the Frenchman ‘didn’t want to be in the squad’ for United’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

However, Martial took to social media to dispute his manager’s claim as he admitted he would ‘never disrespect the club and the fans’.

‘I will never refuse to play a match for Man United,’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘I’ve been here for 7 years and I never disrespected and never will disrespect the club and the fans.’
