Manchester United have confirmed the signings of Charlie McNeill and Alejandro Garnacho as the teenage strikers join the club’s academy.

McNeill arrives from Manchester City where he built up an incredible reputation for scoring goals.

The 17-year-old announced his decision to leave City in June and a deal has taken some time to do, with haggling over a compensation fee, but it has now been completed.

Garnacho arrives at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid, with a deal for the 16-year-old agreed last month but the club finally confirming the move this week.

Atletico were keen to keep hold of the young forward, who has played for their under-19 side despite only turning 16 in July, but Garnacho was keen to follow the path of his footballing hero, Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester.

Manchester United have described the young Spaniard as a player ‘who can operate up front as well as on both wings’ and confirmed that he has completed a spell of self-isolation and is now ready to train with his new team.

Manchester United have been making a concerted effort to bring in young players from Spain and Garnacho is the third to arrive at the club this summer.

Marc Jurado has arrived from Barcelona and Alvaro Carreras has joined from Real Madrid, the former a promising right back and the latter playing on the left of defence.

Mateo Mejia also arrived from Real Zaragoza last year, so there is a significant Spanish contingent growing in the United academy.

The new signings will link-up with Academy boss Nicky Butt.
