Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Jesse Lingard to return from his loan move to West Ham ‘revitalised’.

Solskjaer confirmed on Friday morning that Lingard, 28, was set to join Premier League rivals West Ham on loan for the rest of the season.

Manchester United academy graduate Lingard has made more than 200 appearances for the club and won the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup during his time at Old Trafford.

Lingard has only made three appearances this season, however, and will hope to revive his career in east London under David Moyes.

Solskjaer said: ‘It’s likely that Jesse’s loan deal with West Ham is going through.

‘We want Jesse to come back here revitalised and having shown at West Ham how good a player he is.

‘He’s just been unfortunate with a couple of issues. Some periods he had to stay away from us with Covid isolation and close contact.’

Lingard is set to join a West Ham team who are currently fifth in the Premier League, just six points behind leaders Manchester City.

He could make his Hammers debut on Sunday when Moyes’ side welcome defending champions Liverpool to the London Stadium.

Manchester United, meanwhile, travel to north London on Saturday evening to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
