Manchester United’s hierarchy believe Ralf Rangnick will give them an advantage in the race to sign Erling Haaland next summer, according to reports.

Haaland has been in sublime form since joining Borussia Dortmund with 71 goals in 70 appearances.

The Norway international has attracted strong interest from several clubs across Europe including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

But United are also interested in a deal after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer narrowly missed out on signing his former player in December 2019.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Haaland could be available for £63 million next summer due to a release clause in his contract with Dortmund.

And the report claims that United believe Rangnick could play a pivotal role in helping convince Haaland to make the move to Old Trafford due to his positive relationship with the striker and his father Alf-Inge.

Rangnick was working as Red Bull Salzburg’s director of football when he was able to secure the signing of Haaland from Molde.

The 21-year-old spent just 12 months with the Austrian club before he turned down a direct approach from Solskjaer and United to join Dortmund.

Rangnick, meanwhile, has agreed a two-year consultancy role with United once his time as interim manager finishes at the end of the season.

However the 63-year-old, who has vast experience of coaching in the Bundesliga with Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, is open to staying on as United manager beyond the current campaign.
