United remain in contract talks with Pogba over a new deal as they look to avoid the above situation playing out.
It is understood that the 28-year-old turned down the club’s offer of a new deal, which will force United to finalise a deal with another club before the summer transfer window shuts at the end of August or risk losing him for nothing.
PSG are one of the sides to emerge as favourites to secure the services of the World Cup winner, though Mauricio Pochettino’s side are weighing up their options regarding this potential transfer.
According to The Athletic, the Ligue 1 side have opened initial discussions to “gauge interest” but are yet to submit a formal bid for Pogba.
The report adds that PSG are acting with a sense of caution from a financial point of view, having already completed the free transfers of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Gini Wijnaldum – all of whom will have eaten into the club’s wage budget.
PSG also splashed out £50million on Inter Milan defender Achraf Hakimi and are now keen to reduce their wage bill before continuing to hand out lucrative contracts.
Alphonse Areola, Abdou Diallo, Thilo Kehrer, Idrissa Gueye and Rafinha are among the players likely to attract outside interest, though the French side are unlikely to receive large fees due to the uncertain financial climate of the current market.

The future of star man Kylian Mbappe is also viewed as a primary focus, with the club keen to tie down the 22-year-old to a new deal as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
Another reason for PSG’s considered approach relates to fear of a spike in COVID-19 cases once the season gets underway, leading to the potential of further restrictions on major crowd gatherings.
As explained by the Athletic, ticketing revenue is regarded as ‘essential’ to the club’s business plan.
