Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa: Rangnick reaction

Manchester United switch their focus back to the Premier League this weekend where they will face Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa for the second time in a week.

Ralf Rangnick’s side edged past Villa on Monday at Old Trafford in the FA Cup third round to set up a fourth round tie with Middlesbrough in February.

It’s been a quiet window for Rangnick and United so far and the interim boss is still yet to make his first signing at the club.

But the good news is that there’s still more than half of the window to go and several players continue to be linked with moves to United.

With that in mind, here, Mirror Football brings you the latest gossip from Old Trafford.

No talks over Zakaria deal

Denis Zakaria has been linked with a move to Manchester United

United are yet to hold talks with either Borussia Monchengladbach or Denis Zakaria’s representatives over a move for the player, according to reports.

Manchester Evening News say United are not expected to sign the highly-rated Swiss midfielder this month.

Zakaria’s deal at Monchengladbach expires at the end of June meaning he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs.

The 25-year-old has also been linked with moves to the likes of Juventus and Liverpool, either this month or in the summer.

United ‘keen’ on Lamptey

United are reportedly interested in Tariq Lamptey

The Red Devils are reportedly keen on a deal to sign Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey.

MailOnline say United have a ‘strong interest’ in the player, with Rangnick said to want an upgrade on their current options in the position – Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

The same report claims United believe the player is worth £30m, while Brighton are said to be looking for somewhere in the region of £40m.

The 21-year-old joined Brighton from Chelsea in 2020 and has become a mainstay in Graham Potter’s side.

Lamptey missed the beginning of the season through a hamstring injury, but has gone on to make 13 appearances in all competitions this season.

Van de Beek ‘offered’ to two clubs

Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund are two potential loan move options for Donny van de Beek in the current window, according to reports.

Manchester Evening News say the two clubs have been sounded out as potential options as the midfielder continues to struggle for game time at United.

Van de Beek’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain after a lack of first-team minutes under previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and now Rangnick.

Despite joining the club in September 2020 in a £35m move from Dutch giants Ajax, the 24-year-old has made just four Premier League starts.

Everton were linked with a deal to sign van de Beek in the summer window, but any move failed to materialise.

Van de Beek featured for the final 20 minutes in Monday’s FA Cup over Villa and will be hoping for more of a chance when United play Gerrard’s side again this Saturday.
