Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes would be fine with Real Madrid or Barcelona – Giaretta

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is the club’s ‘real captain’ and is good enough to play for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, according to Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta. The Portugal international has scored 10 goals and registered seven assists in the Premier League this term. And he’s helped the Red Devils to second in the league, behind only Liverpool.

United, since signing Fernandes, have drastically improved.

The Portugal international has been in electric form ever since his arrival and, now, his fine performances have prompted fans to dream of winning the Premier League title.

And Watford director Giaretta, who brought Fernandes to Italy back in 2012, believes he’s the club’s real captain – and has the ability to play for any of Europe’s elite.

“Sure, but beyond the comparisons it is undeniable that Bruno Fernandes is the real captain of the team,” he told Calciomercato when quizzed on the 26-year-old and Paul Pogba.

“If others are important, he is essential.

“If I have to tell the truth it didn’t even surprise me too much from this point of view: at 18 he was already an adult in his head. The hard work did the rest.”

“In addition, he was different from the others because he already had the charisma of a leader, a decision maker.

“I had confirmation of this when I contacted him for the first time, through his agent. I was impressed by his mental strength and the intelligence with which he faced his days.

“He did not let himself be distracted by anything, he was not interested in extra sporting entertainment and leisure.

“I remember that after two months at Novara he already spoke Italian very well. I still use him as an example for many young people.

“Yes, I hear from him often, even a couple of times a week. I can say that he is the same guy I met at Boavista, with a great personality, with the same desire to work to become the best: he is one who is never satisfied, who aspires to a lot, even in his humility.

“He will never say it, but someone with his stats can only dream of important goals such as the Ballon d’Or.

“Since joining Manchester United, he has made 44 appearances and 26 goals, without mentioning the assists and plays for his teammates: he has always been decisive, also establishing himself as a leader.”

United legend Paul Scholes recent claimed Fernandes was even better than he was.

“I think if you look, since he’s been [here], United would be top of the league if they won their game in hand, with more points than Liverpool, which is strange to think really because they’ve had such a bad start to the season,” said Scholes.

“Well, you thought it was a bad start to the season, but they’re still right in there and I think they can only get better. The numbers he’s produced are just ridiculous, let’s hope he carries on.

“He’s better than me. He’s different to me. He scores more goals than me, he creates more goals than me. I’d like to play with him, probably behind him would be alright.

“But no, he’s been sensational, a big difference. I think before he came to the team, United could hardly create a chance with some of the stuff they were playing, but now they look like they can score three, four or five goals every game.”
