Man Utd players have private concerns about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Liverpool loss

Manchester United players are apparently questioning whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can take the club any further after the Red Devils suffered the ignominy of being thumped 5-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday. United were well off the pace during the Premier League encounter as Jurgen Klopp’s side ran rings around them from start to finish.

The defeat leaves United eight points behind leaders Chelsea and means Solskjaer’s side have now failed to find a win in their last four top-flight games.

United started the season in fine form after winning four of their opening five games but have been in freefall since the middle of September.

After losing to Young Boys in the Champions League and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham, the Red Devils were stunned at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

They could then only muster a draw on home soil against Everton, before succumbing to Leicester City and Liverpool.

And, according to The Guardian, the team’s latest defeat has crystallised the belief at the club that Solskjaer is not a good enough manager for United.

In his first full season in charge, the 48-year-old led United to a third-place finish and improved on that last time out as his side secured second spot.

But the manager is yet to win a trophy at the club and missed out on his first piece of silverware in May when United lost to Villarreal in the Europa League final.

And the team now appear to be regressing. On paper, United’s squad is among the best in England and the string of poor results has seen many fans asking whether Solskjaer has the tactical nous to lead the side to success.

Despite the dreadful performance on Sunday, Solskjaer is adamant he is the right man for the job.

“We’ve come too far as a group, and we’re too close to give up now,” Solskjaer said after the game.

“I do believe in myself – I do believe that I am getting close to what I want with the club.”
