Man Utd may be without five key players for Liverpool Premier League clash

Manchester United go up against Liverpool on Sunday aiming to get their Premier League campaign back on track. However, they could be without five key players for the match at Old Trafford. So Express Sport will now take a look at those who are doubtful to be involved.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes dazzle as they rallied to beat Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League in midweek.

However, they could be without the Portugal international for Sunday’s contest.

The Sun have claimed Fernandes was limping at Carrington on Thursday, having taken part in a warm-down session.

If the Portugal international doesn’t recover in time, that would be a hammer blow to Solskjaer and his team.

But it would open the door for Jesse Lingard to potentially start, with the England international having to settle for bench roles so far.

Fred

United star Fred was also forced off in the win over Atalanta.

And, so far, the Red Devils are yet to address whether he’ll be fit in time for Sunday’s contest.

The Brazil international has faced criticism for his performances this season, just like in previous years.

But United will need steel and grit to combat Liverpool’s midfield.

So Solskjaer can be forgiven for hoping the Samba star returns sooner, rather than later.

Anthony Martial

Speaking before United’s Champions League victory, Solskjaer confirmed Anthony Martial was back in training.

“Anthony joined in training [on Tuesday], but he’s still not fit enough to join us,” he said.

However, Martial has since trained further.

It’s still unclear, though, whether United will throw him into the mix against Liverpool as they look to claim all three points.

They do have enough attacking talent to cope, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Martial’s return delayed.

Raphael Varane

One player who is 100 per cent primed to miss out against Liverpool is Raphael Varane.

The France international picked up an injury during his country’s Nations League win over Spain earlier in the month, with Solskjaer later saying: “[During the] internationals sometimes, it’s a time to cross your fingers.

“Raphael is out for a few weeks.”

With Varane out, Victor Lindelof is poised to start alongside Harry Maguire.

The duo’s partnership appears to have regressed this season but, against their fierce rivals, it gives the Sweden international a golden opportunity to show he’s got what it takes to be a regular starter.
