Man Utd fans outraged as Bruno Fernandes snubbed for 2020 team for Kevin de Bruyne

Manchester United fans are furious that Steve McManaman has preferred Kevin de Bruyne to Bruno Fernandes in his team of the year. The Manchester City playmaker has arguably been Pep Guardiola’s best player in 2020 but Fernandes has been key to United’s revival.

United fans have turned on Amazon Prime pundit McManaman after he insisted he would prefer De Bruyne in his team of the year over Fernandes in 2020.

The two midfielders have both had fantastic years at their respective clubs.

De Bruyne won the PFA Player of the Year award at the end of last season in a campaign that saw him score 13 and assist 20 in 35 Premier League appearances.

And this term, he has netted twice while assisting seven in 13 league displays for City whereas Fernandes has been something of a revelation at Old Trafford.

After signing in January earlier this year, the Portugal international hit the ground running and scored eight and assisted seven in 14 Premier League appearances.

That form has continued into the new season, with 10 goals and seven assists in 15 league showings.

But McManaman has sided with KDB over Fernandes, saying on Amazon Prime: “If I have to choose between Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes…De Bruyne wins all the time.”

It has led to a huge reaction from fans, who have called out the former Liverpool and City midfielder.

One fan said: “Then take him. I’ll gladly take Bruno and 8 more goal contributions with him.”

While another replied: “I’ll take Bruno. You know, the guy who has actually scored goals this season outside of PKs.”

“It’s fine, people with common sense would go with Bruno,” a third said.

And another huge fan of Fernandes is former West Ham and Norwich star Dean Ashton, who believes players like Marcus Rashford love having the 26-year-old around.

“For some players, it takes time to adapt. I’ve heard players who have played for the likes of Manchester United saying what a huge step up it is.

“They didn’t realise just what came with playing for a club like Manchester United. Well he has walked in there as if they are lucky to have him!

“He’s gone in there with that sort of confidence as if to say, ‘you have been waiting for me and now I am going to show you why.’

“He’s played 29 times in the Premier League for Manchester United, he has had 32 goal involvements – 18 goals and 14 assists. Another part to a top player that I always look at is how they improve everybody else.

“Is anybody else getting better alongside you? Absolutely. Marcus Rashford is suddenly flourishing because he knows, as a forward, that the minute Bruno gets the ball he can make the run.”
