Manchester United 0-5 Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reaction

Manchester United star Harry Maguire has appeared to perform a U-turn over TV interviews following the weekend.

The Red Devils were handed a 5-0 drubbing from their rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick while Naby Keita and Diogo Jota were also among the goals to put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under serious pressure.

One player who did not perform well was United captain Maguire, who looked all over the place as Liverpool tore the home side to shreds.

There was one moment when both the centre-back and Luke Shaw got mixed up in a defensive howler, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold to cross and find Jota to double Liverpool’s lead after 15 minutes.

After the match, Maguire admitted that he did not even want to face the cameras a he gave his post-match interview.

He said on Sunday: “It’s nowhere near good enough at this club. We are all disappointed. We spoke in the dressing room, I’m here because I have to be here.”

It led to huge criticism of the England international, especially from disgruntled fans who were waiting to hear from the United captain on how they allowed such a result to happen.

But it appears Maguire has learnt from that and has vowed to make more of an effort after fronting up for interviews ahead of the weekend.

The Red Devils face Tottenham in the Premier League in what could be a pivotal match in Solskjaer’s career.

Spurs are also struggling under Nuno Espirito Santo and could be United’s best chance to find some form again with Manchester City up next.

But Maguire took responsibility after facing a grilling from reporters with the club in borderline crisis mode.

According to the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old has put himself forward for media duties ahead of his teammates during a difficult time for United.

Usually, TV interviews are shared among the squad but Maguire sought out the cameras himself to banish the idea that he was hiding from the limelight.

The former Leicester star spoke to United’s official website yesterday, saying: “It’s been a tough week obviously, you can’t just brush these things aside, especially when you lose to your rivals. To lose in the manner that we did was so disappointing.

“We’ve obviously had big discussions, we’ve analysed the game and the goals and looked at how we can do better and improve.

“That’s the most important thing now, we need to come together as a group and a club. We know our fans will be with us and come Saturday at Tottenham, like I said, they will be there in their numbers and I’m sure they’ll be singing and chanting and be right with us and getting behind us.”
