Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer steps in for Anthony Martial deadline day transfer call

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly made a decision on Anthony Martial’s future amid speculation Paris Saint-Germain could make a move if Kylian Mbappe departs. This summer’s transfer window has seen some of the world’s biggest superstars switch clubs with Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Jadon Sancho, Romelu Lukaku and Jack Grealish among those.

Arguably the biggest surprise of all though came late last week when it became clear that United were going to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils now arguably have the best attacking options in all of Europe with an array of talent to pick from.

Ronaldo and Sancho’s arrival this summer adds to what Solskjaer already had last season in Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Martial.

Rashford is currently out injured but United have already started the new season in brilliant form in front of goal, particularly Greenwood and Pogba.

Cavani only made his first appearance of the new season last weekend in the 1-0 win over Wolves.

But Martial has struggled to make an impact so far, playing little over 90 minutes through the opening three games.

There was some speculation heading into the summer transfer window that Martial may be moved on.

No such move has materialised, but Ronaldo’s sudden return to Old Trafford revived some rumours on Martial’s future.

According to The Athletic, there have been discussions with PSG should Mbappe leave for Real Madrid.

But the report adds that Solskjaer has made it clear that he won’t sanction Martial’s sale this late in the transfer window.

It is said that only an ‘extraordinary set of circumstances’ would lead United into changing their position.

Cavani has also been touted to leave United with Barcelona reportedly holding talks with the Uruguayan’s agents, but the forward is also expected to stay.

No more activity in terms of incomings are likely either despite continued links with a move for Ruben Neves, Saul Niguez and Declan Rice.

Solskjaer is reportedly ‘a fan’ of the West Ham midfielder, but a move for the midfielder would prove too costly.

There are still some question marks over Jesse Lingard’s future, although West Ham have supposedly given up on signing the midfielder.

But Dan James is set to leave after a £24million fee was agreed with Leeds.
