Manchester United and Chelsea will have to pay a whopping £154million to sign Erling Haaland this summer, reports claim. Borussia Dortmund are holding firm as the race for the Norwegian sensation hots up ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
Haaland only joined Dortmund 14 months ago when he completed his £18m switch from RB Salzburg in January 2020.
United had the chance to sign him at that price before they turned their back on negotiations due to super-agent Mino Raiola’s demands.
But now the Red Devils are prepared to re-enter the running for Haaland, who simply will not come cheap this summer.
He has a £64m release clause written into his Dortmund contract but that does not become active until 2022.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also set to do battle for Haaland in what is likely to become a bidding war.
Haaland is desperate to play in the Champions League next season, something that is not guaranteed as things stand with Dortmund.
The Bundesliga club are currently outside the top four and have work to do to ensure they secure qualification.
The 20-year-old recently became the youngest-ever play to his 20 goals in the competition.
Haaland was quizzed on his future this week while away on international duty with Norway.
He was asked what it would take for any club to sign him, as he responded: “They must want me.”
Before adding: “I still have a three-year contract, I’m not concerned about that.”
The Leeds-born star has 21 goals in 21 Bundesliga matches this season, with a further 10 to his name in the Champions League.
