Manchester United hope Nemanja Matic will be available as they aim to overturn a 3-1 deficit against Manchester City in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final.
City tore United apart in the first half of their clash at Old Trafford three weeks ago, storming into a 3-0 lead by the interval.
But the introduction of Matic after the restart helped United gain a foothold on the game, and Marcus Rashford scored what could yet prove a crucial second-half goal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side must do without Rashford at the Etihad on Wednesday night after United’s top scorer suffered a double stress fracture in his back.
But they will hope midfielder Matic can prove his fitness after he picked up a knock in Sunday’s 6-0 win at Tranmere in the FA Cup.
David De Gea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were rested for the Tranmere clash, suggesting they will play tonight.
Harry Maguire was injured for the first leg, so will be a welcome presence for United in the heart of the defence.
But Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay remain sidelined, as do Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah is pushing for fitness.
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is a doubt for Wednesday night’s clash.
The French centre-back played 75 minutes at Sheffield United last week after almost five months out with a knee injury but was not involved against Fulham on Sunday.
Number two goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, having played in all domestic cup matches this season, is set to continue. Winger Leroy Sane (knee) is the only major absentee.
