The Great Australian Bake Off will make its long-awaited return to Foxtel in 2022, following a two-year hiatus.

And reports claim the show’s star, culinary icon Maggie Beer, was less-than-impressed after network bosses attempted to replace her fellow co-stars ahead of the new season.

According to Monday’s New Idea magazine, the 76-year-old restauranteur was ‘forced to put her foot down’ after Foxtel executives threatened to ‘shake up her co-panel’ of presenters.

As of the show’s last season, Maggie’s panel included Australian chef Matt Moran, presenter Mel Buttle and comedian Claire Hooper.

After making her loyalty to the panel crystal clear, Maggie was able to convince executives to re-hire all three stars.

‘Thankfully Maggie has big pull, and all four will be back,’ the insider confirmed.

Maggie and Matt will return next season as judges, while Mel and Claire will once again serve as hosts.

‘Getting back to work with Matt, Claire and Mel is like slipping into a comfortable sweater,’ Maggie said in an official statement last month.

‘There are so many laughs and every season I look forward to the bakers themselves. I love their personalities, their backgrounds, their stories and their passion for baking.’

The Great Australian Bake Off last aired on Foxtel 2019, before being canned in 2020.

Rumoured quickly began swirling that the show would make a comeback on free-to-air television by replacing My Kitchen Rules on Channel Seven.

However, it was finally confirmed in July this year that Foxtel had re-secured the format rights to the franchise and would begin airing season 5 in 2022.

The Great Australian Bake Off is based on the top-rating BBC baking competition The Great British Bake Off.
