Lukaku responds to transfer question as Chelsea dealt Isak blow

Chelsea will be fully aware of how important the summer transfer window is.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been backed by many to challenge for the Premier League title next season, but still have plenty of work to do in the window in order to overthrow Manchester City.

The Blues claimed the Champions League last campaign and will be hoping to win further trophies in the 2021/22 season.

A new striker is believed to be the club’s main priority after struggling to get the best out of Timo Werner last campaign.

But who is likely to be on their way to Stamford Bridge?

Mirror Sport have rounded up the latest transfer rumours…

Romelu Lukaku has made clear he is “happy” at Inter Milan after being asked about his future.

The Belgian forward helped the Serie A giants to the league title last season and is in high demand this summer.

Chelsea have been listed as one of the clubs interested in a deal for their former player, along with other top European sides.

Former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair tweeted Lukaku yesterday, asking the 28-year-old: “Fancy the blue half of Manchester, Rom?”

Lukaku responded to this by stating: “I am happy at Inter.”

Souness sends Gilmour message

Graeme Souness has urged Thomas Tuchel not to send midfielder Billy Gilmour out on loan next season and believes the Scotland international should remain at the club to continue his development.

Gilmour made a hugely positive impression during England’s Euro 2020 showdown with Scotland at Wembley, during which the 20-year-old was named Man of the Match.

The Chelsea youngster has reportedly attracted interest from Rangers and Norwich City ahead of the new campaign, but Souness believes Phil Foden acts as the evidence that players can develop just as much by remaining at their parent club.

“I’d personally keep him at Chelsea. I think Jorginho has to be looking over his shoulder,” said the former Liverpool midfielder.

“He’ll be challenging him more than anyone else. I look at Phil Foden at City and Pep didn’t let him go out on loan.

“I look back on my own career and think how did I improve – there was no words of wisdom, no sentence any coach said to me, there was no watershed moment in my career where I turned a corner.

“What made me better, I was 23, went to Liverpool, arguably the best team in the world, certainly the best team in Europe – and I was playing with fabulous players in training every single day.”

According to Spanish publication AS, Los Blancos have initiated ‘first’ contacts with the representatives of the 21-year-old and could have an advantage when it comes to striking a deal.

Isak is currently represented by the same agency as Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who recently agreed a new one-year contract at the club.

As a result, the Spanish club’s relationship with Isak’s camp could raise hopes of a transfer being completed.
