Louise Redknapp heartbreakingly feared Jamie would leave for someone 'skinny'

It was three years ago this week that Louise and Jamie Redknapp’s 19-year marriage was dissolved in just 25 seconds at the Central Family Court in London.

Former Eternal star Louise, 46, filed for divorce on the grounds of ex-footballer Jamie’s ‘unreasonable behaviour’, with the document stating: “The respondent (Jamie) has behaved in such a way that the petitioner cannot reasonably be expected to live with the respondent.”

Jamie, 47, did not contest the divorce and neither attended the quickie hearing on December 29, 2017.

But while Louise was the one who filed to end their marriage, the split nevertheless hit her for six.

Admitting it came as a ‘shock’, while she has never divulged the exact reason, she has been open about wanting to escape her ‘Stepford Wife’ role.

With nothing to do while sons Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, were at school and forced to watch TV pundit Jamie live the life she wanted for herself, her self-esteem took a beating.

That was until a 2016 stint on Strictly Come Dancing ‘put the fire’ in her belly and inspired her to finally pursue her own dreams.

What followed was a successful stint in West End show Cabaret, followed by musical 9 to 5. And she’s now got her comeback album, Heavy Love, ready for a January 2020 release.

However, she admitted she wished she had done thing differently. Describing her marriage to Jamie as “traditional”, instead of sharing her ambitions with him, she kept her confidence crisis hidden, fearing those around her “would think I was nuts.”

“I wish, three years ago, I’d been able to just speak up. For a long time it was easy to blame him,” she previously said.

“But it was down to me to say, ‘Something’s not right. My self-esteem is really struggling. I’ve got no passion.

“I wish I’d just gone, ‘Right, the kids are getting older, and I love my job and I’m going to give it a real go, and Jamie, if you don’t like it, tough. But if you do like it, let’s talk about it.'”

Despite her successful comeback, confidence is still something the talented star struggles with – along with the pain of their split – and she recently admitted she doesn’t know if she’ll ever truly move past it.

“I don’t know whether someone ever gets over getting divorced after 20 years and not working for a long period of time and regaining your ability to get back up on stage,” she told Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Spinning Plates podcast.

And even during their marriage, the gorgeous star struggled with her body image in the wake of the birth of her second son and opened up about how it left her fearing Jamie might find someone else.

“I want to feel good for myself and my husband,” she previously told the Daily Mail.

‘Jamie’s a good-looking guy and I do go through ups and downs. When I feel confident, I think, ‘I’m a good woman. He won’t find anyone better.’

“Then I have days when I think, ‘There are beautiful, skinny girls out there. He could have anyone.'”

Jamie is now believed to be dating Swedish model Frida Andersson-Lourie while Louise remained single.

But the former couple reunited for Christmas, with Louise sharing a video of Jamie sat in an armchair watching the boys open their presents.
