Loris Karius has hit back at fans who mocked him for his two mistakes in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead in North Carolina through Virgil van Dijk but slipped to a 3-1 defeat against their Bundesliga opponents.

For Karius, it was another game to forget as the German made an error in each half and was widely criticised by Liverpool fans during the match.

The first mistake came after just four minutes as Karius came racing from his area but his scuffed clearance fell straight to Maximilian Philipp, whose shot towards an empty goal from 40 yards failed to hit the target.

Karius’ second mistake came in injury time when Liverpool were 2-1 behind.

Christian Pulisic’s shot from close range was straight at Karius, but the Liverpool goalkeeper parried the ball into the path of Jacob Bruun Larsen, who pounced to seal Dortmund’s 3-1 win.

After the match, Karius took the opportunity to hit out at Liverpool fans who have begun to mock his mistakes.

‘To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you,’ Karius posted on Instagram.

‘Whatever it is that’s happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray it passes and good things come to you.’

Karius now faces a tough battle to retain his place as Liverpool’ first-choice goalkeeper following the £65 million signing of Alisson from Roma last week.
