Andrea McLean jokes about husband’s ‘marriage-ending behaviour’
Andrea McLean has opened up about the amorous start to her third marriage which saw her spend the night with the man who would become her husband within hours of meeting him.
Andrea had previously been married to her childhood sweetheart Nick Green from 2000 to 2005 and together they have a son named Finlay who was born in October 2001 – and her second marriage to TV presenter Steve Toms lasted from 2009 to 2012 and they shares a daughter named Amy who was born in November 2006.
Having endured two divorces, Andrea says she was reluctant to embark on a new relationship – but agreed to go on a blind date when set up by Loose Women make-up artist Donna Clitheroe.
Sharing the origins of her marriage to Nick, Andrea told the Sliding Doors Podcast: “I’d been set up on this blind date, I’d never been on a date before really because although I’d been married before, I’d never been on the dating scene.
“I met the father of my son, my first husband, we met in school, I sat behind him in geography.”
She explained that she washing to have a good date as her plans for the night out involved dropping her kids off at their respective father’s house, and she even took her dog to a kennel.
She said: ”By the time I got there I thought this had better be a good night because I’ve been making so much effort to get here!”
“It turned out he didn’t want to be there either”
“I’d been divorced for a while, he was getting divorced and it was a really difficult time for him and he literally only went for the same reason as he was friends with the husband and he was like, ‘Right ok, I’ll go not to let you down'”.
The pair met in a bar for the start of their date, but it turned out they were having so much fun, they decided to carry on their night.
Andrea explained: “Then we went clubbing, which again, in itself is quite rare for me and we went disco dancing, and he turned out to be loads of fun.
“It was a very busy room and at this point we haven’t touched each other and he took my hand to guide me through this guided room and it was like a bolt of electricity went though both of us and time stood still.
“The whole room stopped, the music stopped, the noise stopped, there was just us. And we looked at each other like we hadn’t seen each other before.

“And then he kissed me and I am not the kind of girl that does this kind of thing, but we snogged like teenagers in this nightclub in Brighton with sticky floors and 45 minutes later came up for air.”
Andrea revealed they then went further, saying: “And then I did something that I’ve never done in my whole life and I just said, ‘Shall we go?’
“And I went home with him and I’d known him for four hours and we’ve been together ever since.”
