Lizzo hit the campaign trail for Joe Biden today, telling people in Michigan “your vote is literally your political voice.”
The ‘Juice’ singer appeared at a campaign event for frontrunner Biden and running mate Kamala Harris in Detroit.
She said Michigan would be “crucial” to the November 3 Presidential election.
“I don’t have to tell you guys that this is the most important election of our lifetime,” she told the crowd.
“Michigan is going to be so crucial, and how Michigan votes is going to be so crucial between trying to make America great again or finally bringing America together.”
With just 11 days to go until polling closes, the Biden campaign is starting to roll out celebrities to take the stump for them.
Tomorrow Jon Bon Jovi is expected to join Biden on the road in Pennsylvania.
And on Sunday, Bon Jovi, the Black Eyed Peas, Lin Manuel Miranda, the Foo Fighters and Cher will take to the stage in an online fundraising concert.
Later, Lizzo explained why her activism was important to her.
“Black women have been the heartbeat of every movement from Sojourner Truth to Black women leading the Black Lives Matter movement, she said.
“We are at the bottom of the privilege totem pole, but yet we always raise our voices first to defend people and their rights.
“It’s a unique place to be. It’s a unique perspective. But I’m so proud to be a Black woman and an activist because when I’m loud, they hear this mouth.”
She added: “When you’re sitting at home and you’re like ‘I just wish they would hear me, I wish they could hear my voice’ this is the time to do that. Your vote is literally your political voice.
“Thinking about 2001 to now, being an American citizen has been tramatic.
“We just want to see good times, we just want the trauma to end.”
