Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may have described January’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament as a ‘Little tournament’ in jest, but he knows it could be a mighty thorn in his side.

Top goal scorers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will jet off to Cameroon to compete for Egypt and Senegal respectively.

They will miss the Reds clash against Brentford at Anfield, as well as the difficult trip to Patrick Vieira’s in-form Crystal Palace side.

Their absence has prompted speculation suggesting Klopp may look to the January transfer window to compensate for their absence.

Liverpool received a huge boost in their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips, as the midfielder has reportedly turned down the advances of Manchester United, due to their historic status of being Leeds United’s fiercest rivals.

The classy midfielder was one of the standout players in England’s run to the Euro 2020 finals, starting every single match alongside West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

United were reportedly planning a £60m assault on Marcelo Bielsa’s side to prise the 25-year-old out of Elland Road.

However, the Daily Star claim he has snubbed United’s advances, due to his concerns about the possible ramifications for his family members who are mostly Leeds born and bred.

And it is also believed his United rejection could be a huge boost for Liverpool, who have also been courting the Leeds ace.

Villa wonderkid soon to be on sale

Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka could soon be on the transfer market, as the England Under-19 international has reportedly told the club he does not have any intention of signing a new contract.

The Villa wonderkid appears to have decided that his future will not be with Steven Gerrard’s side, having reportedly grown frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities.

He is heavily regarded as being one of the best young players within his age group, however he has only played 63 minutes of Premier League football this season.

And it appears the 18-year-old has decided enough is enough, perking the interest of Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool according to the Guardian.

January and next summer will be Villa’s best chances to sell the youngster, as he will be able to sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs in January 2023, which would see him depart Villa Park for free.

Door open for Dias move

Portuguese giants Porto are reportedly open to selling dynamic winger and Liverpool target Luis Diaz.

Klopp’s side are reportedly so keen on the Colombian international, that they may even make a move for him in January to fill the frontline spaces left by Salah and Mane.

His current value at Porto is believed to be around £67m, according to Jornal de Noticias.

And Portuguese news outlet Record, believes Liverpool could potentially sign him in January as Porto are reportedly consider cashing in on the talent.

However, an audacious offer may be necessary, as it is understood they would prefer to keep him in Portugal at least until next summer.

Dias has been a key player for Porto this season, having scored eleven goals and contributed two assists for Conceicao’s side this campaign.
