Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp discusses Thiago injury

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has noticed something different about his side after being forced to watch them on TV at home from his Covid isolation.

Klopp tested positive in the build-up to Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at the start of the month and was unable to attend the match as assistant Pep Lijnders took charge of the Reds for the game.

And the Reds manager has now shared an observation he made while watching from home.

It comes after the Reds booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over Shrewsbury and as the club stand to make a tidy profit on a forgotten Brendan Rodgers signing.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.

Shrewsbury talking points

Liverpool came back from a scare to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

The Reds had fallen behind to their League One opposition in the 27th-minute through Daniel Udoh as he fired home from the near post.

But Kaide Gordon became Liverpool’s youngest FA Cup goalscorer as he equalised minutes later before Fabinho’s penalty put them in front just before half-time.

Roberto Firmino’s backheel and another Fabinho strike sealed Liverpool’s progress in the cup and ensured Klopp’s men avoided a third round banana skin.

The game had plenty of talking points, from Liverpool’s young stars to the club’s Covid issues continuing.

Mirror Football has a round-up of all the key points from the game.

The Reds manager has heaped praise on fans who made the trip to Stamford Bridge as he thanked the supporters for one thing in particular.

Reds to profit from forgotten man

Liverpool could be set for a tidy cash windfall during this month’s January transfer window thanks to a forgotten Brendan Rodgers signing.

The Reds splashed out just £500,000 when they signed Allan Rodrigues de Souza from Internacional in the summer of 2015.

The midfielder failed to make a competitive appearance for the club, however, with work permit issues hampering his time at Anfield.

He was sent out on loan several times to the likes of SJK, Sint-Truiden, Hertha BSC, Apollon Limassol, Eintracht Frankfurt and Fluminense but was never able to break into the first-team squad.

He was sold to Atletico Mineiro for £3.2m in 2020 but the Reds made sure to insert a sell-on clause into the deal – and things are looking good for the Reds getting a nice return on that clause now.
