Liverpool could damage Arsenal's hopes of signing Martin Odegaard despite player's wish

Liverpool could reportedly have a big say in whether Martin Odegaard remains an Arsenal player next season. Odegaard is currently on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid after signing a six-month deal in January. The 22-year-old has become a key part of Mikel Arteta’s side in recent weeks.

Arsenal would like Odegaard to remain with them next season, either in a permanent deal or on another loan.

The Norwegian made just nine first-team appearances in the first half of this campaign under Zinedine Zidane at Real.

The lack of game time forced him to look for a move away in the winter transfer window.

And his long-term future could depend on how long Zidane remains in charge at the Bernabeu.

“I think he had an incredible performance,” said Arteta.

“I think he was very intelligent the way he read the game, the way he affected the game and again he showed how much he wanted to win.

“When everyone was a little trembling he gave us that stability and that composure on the ball and he created chance after chance.

“He’s been showing that, I think, from week one. The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.”
